This special issue focuses on recent advances in genome mining of natural products. In particular, we are interested in the following: 1) Characterization of unusual gene cluster organization and their products 2) New approaches to study biosynthetic gene clusters 3) Characterization of novel enzymes from biosynthetic gene clusters 4) Engineering of gene clusters for new natural products Collectively, we anticipate this special issue of The Journal of Antibiotics will become a useful collection of resources for this rapidly expanding field.
