Furthermore, continued use runs the risk of development of dopamine receptor supersensitivity, which some have suggested can impede efficacy. This raises the question of whether it is advisable to reduce the maintenance dose of the medication or even to withdraw it altogether. However, this is fraught with the likelihood of relapse and diminished efficacy once the drug is reinstated. This series of papers explores whether dose reduction or withdrawal is advisable and the risks associated with such a procedure.
