Towards Systemic Change in Finnish Funeral Practices
摘要
Many of us have experienced the pain of letting go of our beloved ones. Death comes to the door by surprise as an unwanted guest and most often we have not planned for it. This chapter is looking at the Finnish funeral services and planning. In line with the general trend of secularization in Europe (Davie, 2022), a substantial part of Finnish people no longer feel that they are religious. Yet, the funeral services are still by default being provided by the church as there are not many other alternatives. This way, the community considered in this chapter includes family and friends, but in addition also the Christian, especially the Lutheran, church in Finland.
