This chapter focuses on workers who work for a wage at foreign farms or at Tanzanian contract farmers’ fields. A total of five focus group discussions were conducted, complemented by 96 in-depth interviews with agricultural workers and the administration of an equal number of structured questionnaires. The questionnaires were designed to capture a broad range of household-level dynamics, including assets, living conditions, farming practices, participation in rural labour markets, and the nature of labour relations. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups allowed for a more nuanced exploration of individual and collective experiences, focusing on working conditions, relations with employers, and perceptions of power relations and dependency within labour arrangements.
