Benefits of an Integrated Approach
摘要
In the preceding paragraphs, we have seen why the ethics of care is often regarded as a highly appropriate theoretical framework for caring contexts. The ethics of care reminds us that medicine is not solely a matter of clinical decisions. It also fundamentally concerns the quality of the caring relationships which consist of communication, responsivity, empathy, moral concern, and sensitivity. However, as I have argued, these elements risk remaining ineffective in practice if the carer does not engage in the cultivation of their own character. Indeed, it is not sufficient to know that caring requires attentiveness in order to become attentive; nor is the sporadic practice of certain positive traits enough to ensure that one is attentive to the right things, in the right way, and for the right reasons.
