In this paper, close and distant reading techniques are used to identify affective states in the audio description script of the German movie In den Gängen [In the Aisles]. After the creation of empirically motivated categories which represent this phenomenon and after comparing them with existing psychological categories, textometric analysis is applied to the research data (with the help of the corpus tool TXM) to quantify and visually represent relevant linguistic forms or patterns likely to represent this topic. This study sheds light on the particular role played by present and past participles and by verbs denoting an affective state.

摘要

In this paper, close and distant reading techniques are used to identify affective states in the audio description script of the German movie In den Gängen [In the Aisles]. After the creation of empirically motivated categories which represent this phenomenon and after comparing them with existing psychological categories, textometric analysis is applied to the research data (with the help of the corpus tool TXM) to quantify and visually represent relevant linguistic forms or patterns likely to represent this topic. This study sheds light on the particular role played by present and past participles and by verbs denoting an affective state.
