After a presentation of existing approaches to audio description didactics as well as a synoptic presentation of the competence profile of the audio describer, this chapter will present a course on this mode of AVT conducted in the winter semester of 2022|23. The focus lies on my own approach to categorising the competences required in audio describing, a discussion of the structure of a one-semester course on audio description as part of a Master’s in Literary and Audiovisual Translation, and the use of audio description software Frazier, which was published in 2019. This software is increasingly being used by freelancers in German-speaking countries and will therefore also attract interest in the university context. The challenges and successes of the aforementioned course will also be addressed.
