On the basis of previous studies on the Italian consecutive connectives dunque and quindi and on their uses in contemporary writing, this contribution adopts a contrastive approach in order to offer a comparison between the Italian forms and two German connectives which encode the same semantic relation: also and deshalb. After presenting the semantic and syntactic properties of the four connectives, the paper will focus on their usage trends in newspapers. Firstly, we will consider the syntactic configurations as well as the use of comma in order to highlight the interplay between punctuation and syntax in each language. Secondly, we will observe whether the syntactic position and the presence/absence of punctuation marks can influence the type of semantic nuance conveyed by the connectives. L’articolo prende le mosse da studi condotti in precedenza sui connettivi consecutivi italiani dunque e quindi e sulle loro manifestazioni nella scrittura contemporanea per proporre un confronto in ottica contrastiva con due connettivi tedeschi dello stesso campo semantico: also e deshalb. Dopo aver presentato le proprietà semantiche e sintattiche potenziali di ogni connettivo, si porrà il focus sulle tendenze d’uso in testi giornalistici. L’attenzione sarà rivolta in modo particolare alle configurazioni sintattico-interpuntive assunte dai mezzi lessicali, per verificare come in ciascuna delle due lingue si manifesti il gioco tra punteggiatura e sintassi. Secondariamente, si osserverà se il tipo di collocazione sintattica e la presenza/assenza di segni interpuntivi possano avere un’influenza sul tipo di sfumatura semantica veicolata.
