University units constitute professional settings where linguistic diversity is particularly prevalent due to international research projects, exchange programmes and a high academic mobility. This is even more true for language departments as is the case for the Department of Business Communication at Vienna University of Economics and Business, where different languages are also part of the teaching profile. In a small project, linguistic diversity amongst the members of the department was investigated, drawing on a questionnaire and interviews. The results show a high degree of diversity and awareness thereof but also different attitudes towards the lived reality and emotions related to the languages being used.
