The article attempts to present an image of the Polish-Soviet War in The Blaze. Reminiscences of Volhynia, 1917–1919 by Zofia Kossak. The book, published in 1922, was the writerʼs literary debut. The work can be classified as non-fiction, and due to its memoir nature, it can also be classified as an individual account of events as the author had remembered them. The authenticity of the experience is emphasized by the values to which Zofia Kossak was faithful throughout her life: Catholic faith, allegiance to national tradition, perseverance, solidarity and feminine courage. Kossak considered Bolshevism foreign to Polish spirituality, anti-Christian and very dangerous. Despite the cruelty and trauma it caused, the Polish-Soviet War had an assigned idea and a specific axiological foundation. In this approach, The Blaze could become a warning against the dangers of enslavement by ideology.
