We consider the question of the limits of technological progress from two complementary points of view: through semiotic analysis (Moscow-Tartu School and Paris School) and from the standpoint of humanist writers, authors of dystopias. Yuri Lotman speaks about technological progress and scientific revolution, believing that they are the basis for a total change in people’s way of life. Today, we feel both fear and a certain euphoria in the face of progress and new transhuman collectives that are becoming part of our society. Non-human organisms described in dystopias can paradoxically show people an example of real emotions. Semiotics, considered as an organon of the humanities, helps us understand new trends in progress. Nous étudions les limites du progrès technologique depuis deux points de vue complémentaires, celui de l’analyse sémiotique (école de Moscou-Tartu et école de Paris) et celui des écrivains humanistes, auteurs de dystopies. Yuri Lotman s’intéresse au thème du progrès technologique et de la révolution scientifique en postulant que c’est la raison du changement total du mode de vie des humains. Aujourd’hui, nous ressentons de la peur mais aussi une certaine euphorie face au progrès et aux nouveaux collectifs transhumains qu’il nous promet. Les organismes non humains, décrits dans les dystopies, sont paradoxalement capables de nous montrer de véritables émotions. Nous pouvons comprendre les tendances du progrès technologique grâce aux apports de la sémiotique, considérée comme organon des humanités.
