The considerable quantitative and qualitative differences in the systems of verbal nouns across the languages under study call for reflection on the possible reasons underlying this situation. Since the observed constraints on the formation and functional properties of verbal nouns are concentrated in the domain of limitativity, a comparative analysis of different semantic types of limitativity across languages can broaden the analytical scope of the present study and open up further perspectives. In what follows, we focus on several types of limitativity that, in our view, are of particular relevance.

摘要

The considerable quantitative and qualitative differences in the systems of verbal nouns across the languages under study call for reflection on the possible reasons underlying this situation. Since the observed constraints on the formation and functional properties of verbal nouns are concentrated in the domain of limitativity, a comparative analysis of different semantic types of limitativity across languages can broaden the analytical scope of the present study and open up further perspectives. In what follows, we focus on several types of limitativity that, in our view, are of particular relevance.
