The earliest biblical descriptions of artifacts designed and produced by Jewish artists appear as detailed documentation of the TABERNACLE; a description of Solomon’s TEMPLE follows it later. Since both edifices and their contents did not survive (other than the Temple’s WESTERN WALL), artists who attempted to reconstruct them visually had to rely on the biblical descriptions and use their imagination.
