An Overview of Syrian Refugees and their Situation in Germany
摘要
The influx of refugees to Germany in 2015 led to increased visibility of the many problems refugees face with regard to cultural, political, financial, and legal issues. This chapter is an attempt to answer questions such as how do asylum seekers gain a legal foothold in Germany, what rights do they have, and how do they tackle their problems in the host country? To this end, the definition of refugee is explained at length and in detail, followed by the forms of legal protection available for refugees in Germany, and how Germany is experienced by these refugees as a host country. Following this, the role of interpreters in asylum proceedings in Germany will be expounded upon, before descriptive information about Syrian refugees in Halle – as the specific case under investigation in this work – is provided.
