Interest in crop simulation modelling in India started between 1985 and 1995 with the involvement of Indian scientists in the international project “Simulation and Systems Analysis in Rice Production (SARP)” steered by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI – The Philippines) and the Research Institute for Agrobiology at Wageningen University (The Netherlands). Indian scientists also collaborated with the International Benchmark Sites for Agrotechnology Transfer (IBSNAT) Project based at the University of Hawaii, USA.
