The first edition of this publication (Antille et al., 2019) provided an overview of controlled traffic, what it is, why it is increasingly being used by farmers and the enabling technologies that have made it easier to adopt. The aim of this chapter is to summarise that background, introduce newly published research on the subject and explore the benefits of delivering CTF with gantry-based mechanisation.
