Bioremediation: advances in using soil organic amendments to manage contaminants in agricultural soils
摘要
Soil is the basis for global food production. More than 8 billion people directly or indirectly depend on plants growing in soil as fruit, field or garden crops to provide food for people or fodder for animals. The function of soil as the location for agricultural and forestry production is just one of the several essential soil functions: soil is also required for the extraction of raw materials; as the subsoil basis for buildings and infrastructure; as a master control of global water and elemental cycles; as an ecological regulator for material flows; and as a habitat for soil life. These soil ecosystem services are the main pillars of circular resource management and bio-based sustainable production systems (Anikwe and Ife, 2023).
