Improving sustainability of egg production by extending the laying cycle for hens
摘要
Extending the laying cycle of commercially kept laying hens has been the key driver of the breeding programs and breeding goals in laying hen breeding for decades. The extended laying cycles allow the egg producers to generate more eggs per laying hen that they house in their layer barns. These extended cycles will result in less replacement of focks over the course of time, thereby saving costs on fock replacements and the cleaning of the layer barns.
