Animal welfare and health are pivotal to meeting ethical standards and consumer expectations and assuring the sustainability of commercial poultry production. Over recent decades, the egg industry in Europe and North America has undergone signifcant transformation, shifting from conventional cage housing towards cage-free alternatives, with aviary systems offering hens more space and freedom to express their natural behaviours. However, the three-dimensional (3D) structure of aviary systems adds complexity, requiring a high level of management. Simultaneously, average fock sizes have increased to improve production effciency. Together, these changes pose signifcant challenges to daily farm management, including the monitoring and maintenance of fock health and welfare (van Veen et al., 2023).

摘要
