Agriculture plays a significant role in economic growth in many countries. It is a particularly important sector for a developing country as it can serve as an “engine of growth” for the whole economy. In developing countries, the desired level of industrialization cannot be achieved without proper support from the agriculture sector. Overall economic growth can thus be promoted through supporting a country’s agriculture sector (Schultz, 1964; Khan et al., 1986; Abdulai and Rieder, 1996; Gollin et al., 2002; Awokuse and Xie, 2014).
