The environmental effects of agriculture are reflected in many metrics: 60% of the world’s mammal biomass is now livestock and only 4% of the remaining 40% is wild animals, with humans contributing 36% (Bar-On et al., 2018). An estimated 29% of the earth’s arable land is degraded (Gibbs and Salmon, 2015), directly affecting 3.2 billion people (IPBES, 2019).
