Lead Communication As a Practice

Product development teams rarely fail because they lack skill, creativity, or commitment. They fail when communication loses structure. When assumptions remain private, when conversations move too quickly for interpretation, and when meaning becomes scattered across tools and channels, even talented teams begin to drift. Leadership is what prevents this drift. In product development, leadership is not defined solely by authority or seniority; however, it is also not detached from formal responsibility. Team leaders, product managers, engineering managers, and design leads hold accountability for direction and outcomes precisely because they are positioned to influence how teams communicate, prioritize work, and make decisions.
