My first few attempts at using generative AI (or, just GenAI) ended up being comically disastrous. I asked it to perform an end-to-end quantitative risk assessment, help me gather magnitude data, and provide a list of likely threat actors, with capability ratings, for my organization. Some of the results passed the smell test, but strangely, some were nonsensical, and even others were completely fabricated. Disturbingly, I had trouble distinguishing between the accurate and fabricated results. I was excited about this new technology; instead of dismissing it as useless, I took the initiative to educate myself. The epiphany occurred a few days later as I was reading how other people and organizations used GenAI successfully. I was treating it like Data from Star Trek, when in fact, it's more like Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Disturbingly, I had trouble distinguishing between the accurate and fabricated results. I was excited about this new technology; instead of dismissing it as useless, I took the initiative to educate myself.
