Hyper Text Markup Language, or HTML, is arguably the most widely used markup system in the world. While other markup systems are out there, including older document preparation markup systems like LaTeX and nroff, and newer XML-based markup systems including Docbook and DITA, HTML remains the most used markup system because it is the language that allows us to write for the web.
