Key to these efforts will be more accurate, widely available, and transparent climate data informing robust, better functioning, and trusted voluntary and compliance global carbon markets. While the current use of offsets has been the subject of increasing scrutiny and criticism, reaching net-zero without them—or even credibly approaching it, whether at corporate, national, or planetary scales—is cost prohibitive and impracticable.
