This chapter is an important chapter for learning the basics of sending a print job to an IPP/IPPS printer using the built-in Windows 11 IPP Class driver. Complementing this is an investigation into how Microsoft has integrated IPP/IPPS into the Windows subsystem. We will look deeper into how driverless print standards operate and how they employ IPP/IPPS as a consistent channel to submit print jobs. We will delve into the various IPP requests used to reliably print documents and how each of the requests is employed. This chapter also touches on the competing driverless print standards and why they have evolved as they have. Included in this chapter are methods to allow the curious to view Windows IPP print requests on Wireshark and see the protocol in the IPP dissector. The Windows pipeline used to translate file formats to one that is natively rendered on the host printer is discussed. Finally, we provide compelling reasons to leverage the Windows print subsystem methods and reasons you might not do so.
