Introduction: How and Why This Book Was Written
摘要
While writing my previous book, Managing IT Projects, I wondered multiple times, maybe even constantly, what the readers would think of it. I aimed to present a holistic view of the IT project management environment. I winced when I constantly heard the mantra “projects are delayed” and an implicit complaint that it’s the project team’s or the project manager’s fault. Thus, I wanted to shed some light on the actual mechanisms and reasons behind it. I wanted to reveal the truth. My concern was that by describing the world of project management in an open and direct way, I would expose myself to criticism of the IT community. To my surprise, as time showed, the book was received with positive acclaim. I heard multiple times that, at last, somebody said “how it really was” and that until then, there had been no book on the market depicting the reality of managing IT projects in such a pragmatic way.
