Interaction methods are a fundamental aspect of user access and engagement with secure networks. The early decision to allow public access through browsers, an approach we now refer to as indirect interaction, was driven by a desire for convenience and broad accessibility. However, this choice has had far-reaching consequences, many of which have proven detrimental to network security. This chapter explores the concept of indirect interaction, why it has failed to provide adequate security, and how it has led to the proliferation of cyber threats.
