Making It a Standard
摘要
Shall we put all of this knowledge we have read so far in practice? Too often, the conversation around open source focuses on code commits, pull requests, and licenses, leaving behind crucial, people-oriented labor. This hidden, or “invisible,” labor ensures that a project’s ecosystem remains sustainable, equitable, and productive over time. The overarching goal of this chapter is to present a framework that combines practical, file-level guidelines—like those recommended by well know open source best practices—with a deeper application of ethics, inclusion, and governance. By integrating these elements, we can transform a basic set of best practices into a holistic blueprint for democracy-anchored open source standards, centering on historical reparation, conscious technology production, and tangible pathways to equity.
