In today’s informational environment, open educational resources have gained considerable attention. The increased value of open educational resources stems from the fact that they may be accessed anywhere, at any time, for free. OER benefits all academics and researchers by increasing access to scholarly literature and knowledge. OER has emerged as an essential element of research in higher education institutions. This article discusses the benefits and limitations of open educational resources. The study attempts to determine the influence of OER on learning, teaching, and research in higher education. Research is undertaken with the ten institutions of Maharashtra with the highest ranking in 2022. This article concludes that OER is required to promote the expansion of research consumption and its global influence. It encourages students and researchers to obtain essential study materials without leaving their place; it saves time and money qualitatively. It aims to determine how OER improves teaching and learning activities and enhances research abilities. The paper identifies OER barriers and evaluates their impact on research. It also implies that academic libraries can provide OER repositories to their patrons, thereby enhancing research and higher education.
