Among those who are developing information technology, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a high priority. A range of public settings, including libraries, are progressively exploring, developing, and implementing practical uses of AI to enhance the conveyance of knowledge as the technology is improved (Agbaji, 2020). Artificial intelligence (AI) is anticipated to have a significant influence on the workplace, maybe even on professional occupations, but the extent of that impact is debatable. This theoretical work intends to think about the probabilities of various AI implementations in academic libraries. This study employs the concepts of jurisdiction and hybrid logics from sociological theory of the professions as well as the LIS literature on librarians’ competences as theoretical lenses through which to examine the topic at hand. This study begins with a brief summary of these theories before moving on to discuss artificial intelligence’s background and its wide variety of applications within the realm of academic libraries. The study primarily focuses on how AI may be used for gaining new insights. Eleven prospective strategies libraries might take with regard to AI applications are examined, and their probability is assessed. The potential internal and external variables affecting AI adoption are then explored. The study gives a novel perspective on librarians as hybrids and makes a contribution to understanding how to reconcile the skills literature with the theory of the profession in light of the potential influence of AI on librarianship (Cox, 2022).
