Research Productivity of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra During 2012–2022 in Relationship with NIRF Ranking

The study aims to investigate the research productivity of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (KUK) in terms of total publications from year 2012–2022 and its relation with NIRF ranking of KUK. Bibliometric and scientific parameters were used to assess the performance in research productivity of KUK like Citation per Paper (CPP), Research Productivity Index (RPI), Annual Growth Rate (AGR), Relative Growth Rate (RGR), h-index and Doubling Time (DT). Web of Science was used to extract research data about number of publications from 2012 to 2022 published and indexed in it for a detailed analysis of data due to its availability as one of the largest abstracting and citation databases in the world. The retrieved data was exported to MS Excel for mathematical and statistical analysis. MS Excel was used for data analysis and visualization. The research productivity of KUK accrued 1,969 with an average of 199 (10.10%) publications per year and total 22,519 citations with average of 2,047 (9.1%) citation per year and having overall h-index and Research Productivity Index (RPI) of 50 and 1.70, respectively. Year 2019 was identified as having highest Annual Growth Rate (AGR) of 50.7 and year 2013 identified as having negative AGR of −15.2. Relative Growth Rate (RGR) gradually increases from a rate of 0.02 in 2013 to a rate of 0.11 in 2022 and Doubling Time (DT) increases from 0.66 in 2013 to 6.27 in 2022. National Institute of Technology NIT System had produced a maximum of 117 publications in collaboration with KUK in top 10 collaborating institutions count. The study shows that Pal, Amalendu was the most productive author with 92 (15.6%) publications and “Journal of Molecular Liquids” scored maximum of 18.03% (44) publication share in top 10 authors and top 10 journals count respectively. Elsevier showed highest research impact with maximum publications of 36.5% (n = 548) publications, 42 h-index and 9,144 citations, followed by Springer Nature of 27.3% (n = 410) publications, 26 h-index in top 10 publishers share count. The study calculated correlation coefficient between RP ranks and overall ranking of KUK in NIRF as 0.91 which depicts that there is close relation between research productivity of KUK and its NIRF ranking.
