Yazd province with an area of 128,811 km2, and a population of 1,138,533, is located in the center of IranIran. The majority of people are Muslims who speak Yazdi, which is an accentAccent of Persian. However, Yazd can be considered a multi-cultural and multi-language province due to the Jews and Zoroastrians living in this province speaking Judeo-Yazdi and Zoroastrian Dari. Yazd has common borders with Isfahan, South KhorasanKhorasan, Fars, and Kerman provinces. Adopting a dialectometric approach, this research is aimed at studying the dialectDialect(s) diversity in Yazd through analyzing the similarities and differences between language varietiesVariety spoken in 21 villages located in AbarkuhAbarukh, ArdakanArdakan, Taft, MeybodMeybod, AshkezarAshkezar, MehrizMehriz, Bafgh, and BehabadBehabad Counties. In the past decade, there has been a growing tendency for applying computational and statistical methods of measuring linguistic distances in IranIran. These new methods are somehow the substitute for the traditional ways of visualizing dialectDialect(s) boundaries and defining isoglossesIsogloss, usually based on one or very few features. In this article, language varietiesVariety in Yazd province, and the lexical diversityLexical diversit in the semantic domainsSemantic domains of kinship, nature, animals, time, and determiners are measured and discussed using GabmapGabmap (Nerbonne et al., 2011), which is a web application for computer-supported explorations and calculations. Using tools like distribution maps, cluster mapCluster map, and dendrogramDendrogram, the distance between the language varietiesVariety in Yazd, and the distribution of some specific phonological and morphological features will be investigated. At another level, the lexical items of these varietiesVariety are compared to the Standard Persian (SPStandard Persian (SP)) and the middle PersianMiddle Persian (MP) to find out which varietiesVariety have preserved more archaicArchaic features.
