Kinship and Bird Terminology in the Dialects of Southeast Iran: A Survey of Words for Child, Chicken, and Sparrow

This paper contains a preliminary etymological survey on the words for ‘child’, ‘chicken’ and ‘sparrow’ in a number of little-known dialectsDialect(s) in Southeast IranIran, especially Hormozgān and Kermān provinces, and Balochistan. It is argued that there are semasiologicalSemasiology relations between these types of words and meanings, both synchronically and diachronically, which manifest themselves in precise cognatesCognates / Cognate across dialectsDialect(s).
