Policies and Programs to Prevent Elder Abuse in Tamil Nadu

The rise in old age population is one of the emerging serious threats to the contemporary world population in general and India in particular. It is apparent to understand the constant rise in the population of senior citizens in India from 1.98 crore in 1951 to 10.38 crore in 2011. These forecasts indicate that the number of aged who are 60+ in India will increase to 17.3 crore in 2026. As a result of advancement in health care of elderly which facilitates continuous increase in life expectancy in India, and that more elderly people are now living longer than previous years. It reflects that they are not only live longer period of time but lead a secure, dignified, and productive life is a major challenge in front of developing county like India. It is very much essential and need to analyze whether India is prepared enough to face the issue of ageing in an efficient manner. The aim of this study is to analyze the policies for old age people and their impact in preventing elder abuse with reference to the state Tamil Nadu, India. The research methodology of the study is descriptive with qualitative research method to analyze the condition of old age people in Tamil Nadu. This study is completely based on the secondary data.
