The issue of employment (and nonemployment) in later life has long been a focus among policy makers. This chapter uses wide range of international data to focus on the following key issues: (1) to provide as comprehensive a picture as possible of labor market participation rates of older adults around the world; (2) to examine whether older workers are in formal or informal work; (3) to look at the extent to which older workers in different world regions are covered by pensions; and (4) to cover recent policy initiatives on the ageing workforce. Overall the figures presented in this chapter paint a varied picture of the labor market circumstances of older adults around the world. The data on rates of labor market participation rates and pension coverage reveal substantial heterogeneity between countries rather than any overarching global, or even regional, trends.

摘要
