This chapter examines the contours and complexities of nationalist liberation in the accented-regional film Alma-ata (2018), which portrays the homecoming journey of a migrant Filipina in the heartlands of the struggle in southern Philippines. The film traces her exposure to the cannibalistic perpetrations of capitalist modernity, as well the lifeways of revolutionaries carving a humane social arrangement in the national peripheries. This chapter explores how Alma-ata dramatizes the formation of solidarity between the diasporic subject from the First World and indigenous peoples in the national margins, as they embrace revolutionary nationalism in actualizing an alternative, emancipatory modernity.
