Agronomic Management for Enhancing Productivity in Okra: An Overview
摘要
Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) is grown for its tender pods, which contains good amount of vitamin A, folic acid, besides being rich source of carbohydrates, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. It is an important fruit vegetable crop of the tropical and subtropical countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Iraq and Ghana. The productivity and quality of okra is significantly influenced by cultural practices. Proper agronomic management, along with varieties and seeds play major role in increasing the productivity and quality of Okra. The principles for developing cultural practices of okra as well as the different cultural practices have been discussed in this chapter touching cultivars, climate, soil, tillage, planting time, seed rate, plant population and geometry, method of sowing, inter-cultural operations, fertilizer management, weed management, water management, harvesting and cropping systems.
