A Study on Hybrid Turbulence Model Performances in Wind Engineering Applications
摘要
With the advancement of computer resources, engineers, architects, and structural engineers can simulate the environment wind flow over a building from microscale to mesoscale using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). CFD provides an alternative to experimental methods in preliminary accurate wind flow analysis around the building and other wind engineering applications. Accurate turbulence modeling is a significant criterion for using CFD simulation in wind engineering. A recent investigation showed the significance of the turbulence models used in computational simulations, and different models, including hybrid models, were developed to improve the precision of CFD results. This study compares five hybrid turbulence models such as SAS, DES, SBES, DDES, and IDDES under atmospheric terrain wind conditions around the Silsoe cube building. The primary wind engineering variables are extracted and validated with previous experimental results. The turbulence models are recommended for simulating the building wind flows and other wind engineering simulations based on experimental validation.
