Experimental Investigation of Downstream Characteristics of Wavy Leading-Edge Modification on NACA 63(4)-021

This research paper presented the experimental study on effect of wavy leading edge of NACA 63(4)-021 airfoil downstream characteristics with different specifications. Wind turbine clustering in wind farms has recently accelerated the globalization process, resulting in increased power production and farm numbers. The downstream wake characteristics is one of the significant factors that influences the distance between the wind turbines. Therefore, in this current study, a series of wind tunnel investigations were performed to assess the downstream wake characteristics of the NACA 63(4)-021 airfoil with various wavy leading-edge specifications and corresponding Re = 2.02 × 105 at different downstream locations. The downstream near-wake measurements were performed by using a wake rake connected to a pressure scanner at a sampling frequency of 700 Hz. Aiming at investigating the downstream near-wake characteristics, the following parameters like the effect of wavy leading edge, downstream velocity, downstream velocity ratio, and wake intensity were estimated in this study. According to the experimental results, the wake width and downstream velocity ratio decrease as the angle of attack increases.
