This book chapter examines the evolving landscape of policies associated with emerging pollutants on a global scale. In light of the present scenario, where numerous unassessed emerging pollutants are widespread in the ecosystem, understanding existing policies and their shortcomings is imperative. By conducting an inclusive assessment of existing policies, case studies, and their validity, we divulge the convolutions and challenges in managing emerging pollutants. The chapter underscores the need for adaptable policies that consider the pertinacious nature of emerging pollutants and their varied nascencies. By evaluating the successes and shortcomings of existing policies, we offer insights into potential strategies for more effective regulatory frameworks. For instance, collaborative networks like NORMAN can be valuable for global regulatory bodies such as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Basel Convention, Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, and Rotterdam Convention on Prior Informed Consent for monitoring, assessment, and regulation of ECs. This chapter adds to the ongoing discourse on environmental policy development and its crucial significance in mitigating escalating risks posed by emerging pollutants.
