How to Talk About Money: The Portable Kit as a Research Approach
摘要
This chapter introduces the “Portable Kit” methodology, described as a tangible, analog tool designed to facilitate discussions around the objects people use to manage their money. By applying the Portable Kit across four diverse contexts, the study highlights similarities and differences in digital financial behaviour between regions in the Global South and the Global North. Through guided dialogues complemented by observations of various financial tools and practices, the Portable Kit method reveals how individuals make informed choices in navigating complex financial markets. In doing so, it challenges common assumptions about those who occupy marginalized social positions.
