Three Dimensional Numerical Study of Large Piled Raft Foundations
摘要
Piled raft foundation is becoming a preferred foundation option compared to the design of pile foundations, as the contribution of the raft in load sharing is always taken into account. In the present study, three-dimensional numerical studies of large piled raft foundations on stiff clay have been carried out using PLAXIS 3D. The immediate response of piled raft resting on stiff clay has been considered in the study. The soil was modeled using the Hardening soil material model. The effects of loading type (uniform load and point load), loading intensity, number of piles, and pile spacing have been studied on the settlement and load sharing behavior, axial load distribution for piles, and raft-soil contact stresses. Results of the study show that for the same loading intensity and pile number, the axial load carried by the center pile gradually increases, and the average settlement decreases as the pile spacing increases. The load-sharing ratio decreases with the increase in loading intensity for the same pile number and pile spacing. For the same loading type and loading intensity, the raft-soil contact pressure of piled raft is lower than that of an unpiled raft, and it decreases as the pile number increases.
