Slope Stability Analysis of Landslide and Investigation on Soil Characteristics: A Case Study in Kodagu
摘要
The research focused on hydrological investigations of landslides that occurred in Kodagu district of Karnataka in 2018. The study was done with on-the-ground data with the aim of analyzing the factors that cause the slides. A landslide at Bachalli, Kodagu district, had been chosen for detailed investigation. Stability analyses of slope was carried out using the software GeoStudio SLOPE/W. The slope stability analysis was carried out and the factor of safety of the slope was determined. And The region’s soil characteristics were determined by testing on undisturbed soil samples from the field, and the change of shear strength with respect to water content was investigated. It has been inferred from the investigations that even though the slope was safe, it has failed because of heavy rainfall. The major cause of the disaster in the district has been unprecedented rainfall, which has resulted in substantial build-up of underground water in the valley parts due to high infiltration rates and low permeability which resulted in increase of water content, rather than any commonly attributed reasons. Because of the region's distinctiveness, it is decided that researching on this natural phenomenon without significant field investigations would be a beneficial exercise.
