The design of forging impact hammer foundation based on two degree of freedom mass-spring model involves a trial and error method and is time-consuming. The design involves numerous assumptions and these values critically affect the design. This paper provides a guideline to simplify the design procedure of the forging hammer. Parametric study is conducted for commercially used forging hammers based on IS 2974—Part II (1980) and the results are used to develop a design chart that can be used to reduce the number of trials involved in the design procedure and to find out the values of the weight of foundation and material of timber pad to be used in a single step.
