The construction industry is primarily resource-intensive, extracting almost 50% of total natural resources, consuming nearly 40% of global energy, and responsible for almost 35% of solid waste and greenhouse gas emissions, respectively. The reason behind the current scenario is the linear model adopted by the construction industry. The global construction industry shifted from linear to circular in the last decade. A circular economy is a regenerative approach wherein the resources are kept brought back and reused, contributing to environmental and economic gain. This study identifies different types of waste that can be used in the construction industry and helps achieve a circular economy. The study’s scope focuses on the construction industry, and the method adopted is a systematic literature review. The systematic literature review includes 32 research articles divided into four research areas: waste reuse from the construction industry, waste reuse from the plastic industry, waste reuse from the agricultural sector, and waste reuse from the steel industry. A content analysis of the articles under review helped understand the recent development in the field and identify new findings that are discussed.
