Financial holding companies (FHCs) are a type of business widely found in countries around the world that share some common features across jurisdictions, such as an emphasis on control and the special requirements of subsidiaries. The history of FHCs can be traced back to approximately the 1970s, while the legislation and development of FHCs in China emerged gradually after the twentieth century. Using classic methods of legal research such as doctrinal, comparative, and historical analyses, this book draws on the experiences of major countries in the world in the regulation and governance of FHCs and endeavours to provide lessons for the future development of financial holding companies in China.
