Plates and cylindrical shells are integral structural components in a variety of modern industrial applications, known for their load-bearing capabilities. In this chapter, the mechanical thin plate model for small deformation will be developed and the basic equations of the thin plate will be derived by using the general 3D elasticity theory and the variational method. Then, bending, vibration and buckling of thin plates will be discussed. Some classical methods for solving boundary-value problems for thin plates will be presented. Finally, buckling of cylindrical shells subjected to axially compressive loads will be discussed and analyzed.
