This chapter presents the outcomes of the initial exploratory phase of a mixed-method research project that identified employer perceptions of Arabic language competencies of an International Branch Campus’ (IBC) graduates. The aims were to compile a list of employer needs, inform Arabic programme planning in relevant IBCs in Qatar and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and contribute to the literature. The chapter aligns with the book's objective of identifying the ‘transformations’ needed so that the outcomes of the higher education system in Qatar align well with the job market's needs. The study identified a need for graduates to have better Arabic language skills that meet employers’ requirements, including fluency in written and spoken Modern Standard Arabic. It also observed a discrepancy in the qualifications of Arabic Heritage Language learners who graduated from an IBC in Qatar compared to Qatar's Second National Development Strategy objectives for 2018–2022 (Planning and Statistics Authority, 2018).
