The wetting behavior between the liquid steel and the lining refractory has a great influence on the characterization of inclusions in the steel and the quality of the steel products. The chemical and physical properties of refractories played a significant role in the interaction between the molten steel and the lining refractories. Effects of steel composition, the composition of the lining refractories, the surface tension, the interfacial tension, and the contact angle were discussed. Besides, the penetration of the molten slag into the lining refractory during the steelmaking and refining processes was also reviewed.
